About Us
Care That Honors the Individual.
Personalized home care. Meaningful relationships. The comfort of home.
At Cura Home Care Services, we believe exceptional care begins with understanding the person behind every care need.
Locally owned and founded in Stamford, Connecticut, Cura provides thoughtful, non-medical home care to older adults, individuals with disabilities, and those recovering from illness or injury throughout Lower Fairfield County.
We take the time to understand each client’s preferences, routines, and aspirations, creating a care experience that supports autonomy, nurtures meaningful connections, and brings reassurance to families.
Our Mission
To enrich lives through thoughtful, individualized home care that honors autonomy, nurtures meaningful relationships, and empowers individuals to live with comfort, confidence, and purpose in the place they call home.
Our story
Rooted in Care. Guided by Purpose.
Cura Home Care Services was founded in 2018 by Shivonne Mathison, LMSW, with a deeply personal understanding of what it means to care for another person.
Shivonne’s journey in caregiving began at the age of thirteen, when she helped care for her grandmother in Guyana. Those early experiences taught her that meaningful care extends far beyond assisting with daily activities. It is about patience, attentiveness, respect for personal choices, and the relationships that bring comfort and connection to everyday life.
Her passion for caregiving eventually became her life’s work.
Through her professional experience in social work, residential care, and case management with the Southwestern Connecticut Agency on Aging, Shivonne developed a broader understanding of the needs of older adults, individuals with disabilities, and the families who support them.
She also recognized that no two individuals experience aging, illness, or changing care needs in quite the same way.
Cura was born from a desire to offer something deeply personal: home care that sees the individual first.
Today, that founding belief continues to guide our approach. We strive to create thoughtful, dependable care experiences that respect each client’s preferences, support their autonomy, and bring peace of mind to those who love them.
For us, care is more than a service. It is a relationship built on trust.
Our Philosophy of Care
The Cura Difference
Because no two lives are alike, no two care experiences should be either.
We believe the most meaningful care begins with listening.
Every person brings a lifetime of experiences, preferences, traditions, and relationships that deserve to be recognized and respected. At Cura, we take the time to understand those details because they shape how someone wishes to live and how we can best support them.
Our approach is grounded in three guiding principles
i.
Autonomy and Individuality
We honor each client’s right to make choices about their daily life. From familiar routines and personal preferences to the pace of each day, our role is to provide support while preserving independence and a sense of self.
ii.
Meaningful Relationships
We believe trust and consistency are essential to exceptional care. We thoughtfully consider each client’s needs, personality, and preferences when matching caregivers, fostering relationships built on familiarity, compassion, and mutual respect.
iii.
Thoughtful, Dependable Support
Whether someone needs companionship, assistance with daily living, support after a hospital stay, or more comprehensive care at home, our commitment remains the same: to provide attentive, personalized support that helps clients and families feel confident and cared for.
At Cura, we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.
We believe in care as individual as the people we serve.
